There is no honest single monthly cost for every washing machine in Egypt. The answer changes with the exact model, program, water heating, household tariff bracket, water charge, and number of cycles. The useful approach is a formula filled with your own dated figures, not a tariff copied from an undated article.

## The formula

Use this monthly calculation:

`monthly running cost = cycles per month × [(kWh per cycle × current electricity rate) + (litres per cycle ÷ billing unit × current water rate) + detergent per cycle] + averaged descaling and inlet-filter cost`

Take kWh and litres from the exact model's dated label, official sheet, or manual. Take the electricity bracket and water billing unit from your current household bills or the current official utility schedules. Egypt's household tariffs are tiered and dated, so this article deliberately provides no tariff number.

The [washing-machine buying guide](/en-eg/guides/how-to-choose-a-washing-machine/) explains capacity and program trade-offs, while the [main washing-machine picks](/en-eg/best/best-washing-machine/) show why a retailer title alone is not enough for an efficiency claim.

## Low-use scenario

Use a low scenario for roughly 8 to 12 cycles per month, such as one person or a couple consolidating full loads. Multiply that cycle count by the official figures for the program actually used. A low cycle count does not justify guessing the tariff or ignoring standing household billing rules.

## Typical-use scenario

Use a typical planning case of roughly 16 to 24 cycles per month for a household running several loads each week. If cotton, quick, and hot programs are all common, calculate them separately and add the results. One average program can hide the cost of water heating.

## High-use scenario

Use a high scenario of roughly 28 to 36 cycles per month for a larger household, frequent bedding, or repeated small loads. This case is useful for spotting whether a larger capacity could reduce cycle count, but do not assume it will. Only your real load pattern can show that.

| Scenario | Monthly cycles to model | Use these inputs |
|---|---:|---|
| Low | 8 to 12 | Exact program kWh, litres, current bill rates, detergent dose |
| Typical | 16 to 24 | Separate common programs if their official figures differ |
| High | 28 to 36 | Actual mix of regular, bedding, and hot cycles |

## What not to put into the formula

Do not use motor wattage as kWh per cycle. Do not copy an old national tariff into a current household bracket. Do not claim that every front-loader or every inverter model uses the same amount. And do not turn a retailer's feature name into an efficiency figure. The Haier example above lists an inverter motor, but the frozen listing supplied no comparable per-cycle number.

## Improve the estimate with one month of records

Write down the date, program, load type, and whether water heating was used for each cycle. At month end, count the cycles and replace the low, typical, or high placeholder with your actual mix. A plug-in meter is only appropriate if its rating, earthing, placement, and the appliance manual allow it; if there is any doubt around a high-load appliance, ask a qualified electrician rather than improvising.

Use the current [washing-machine price guide](/en-eg/prices/washing-machine-prices/) for purchase-cost context, the [front-load shortlist](/en-eg/best/best-front-load-washing-machine/) for the full Haier evidence block, and the [washing-machines hub](/en-eg/washing-machines/) for the rest of the cluster.

## Bottom line

The calculation is simple once the inputs are real: cycles multiplied by electricity, water, and detergent per cycle, plus occasional care costs averaged over time. The difficult part is refusing stale tariffs and missing efficiency data. Find your current bracket on your own bill or the current official schedule, use the exact model's dated label, and keep low, typical, and high scenarios visibly separate.
