# Dyson V8 vs V11: What the Extra $205 Buys

> Dyson V8 vs V11, on the numbers each listing actually publishes: runtime, cleaner head, filtration, price, and the review base behind each one.

**Verdict:** Two named models from one brand, and the gap between them is about $205. The Dyson V8 (≈ $390) states up to 40 minutes of runtime, two cleaning modes and a Motorbar cleaner head. The Dyson V11 Animal (≈ $595) states up to 60 minutes, a High Torque head that adapts to the floor type on its own, HEPA filtration and four tools. So the extra buys you half again as much runtime and a head that thinks for itself, not a different class of clean. One thing cuts against the price order: the V11 listing carries thousands of ratings and the V8 listing only hundreds, so the pricier machine is also the better documented one here.

Want the quick answer? The **Dyson V8** (≈ $390) and the **Dyson V11 Animal** (≈ $595) do the same job, and the roughly $205 between them buys two concrete things their own listings agree on: runtime goes from up to 40 minutes to up to 60, and the cleaner head goes from a Motorbar you set yourself to a High Torque head that adapts to the floor on its own. If your home takes under 40 minutes to do, the V8 is the sensible buy. All prices are approximate and change, so double-check before you buy.

## How we choose

We work on a research-and-synthesis model, with no hands-on testing. We compare the manufacturer specs, read the consensus of buyer reviews on Amazon.com, and check current prices at publication. For this comparison we stuck to what each of these two listings publishes about itself, which matters more than usual here: Dyson sells several V11 variants and their listings do not all state the same specs, so a figure taken from one V11 does not automatically describe another. Our full method is on the [how we choose](/en-us/how-we-choose/) page.

## Where the $205 actually goes

Set side by side, the honest summary is that this is a runtime and convenience upgrade, not a step into a different class of cleaning.

**Runtime** is the clearest difference and the one both listings state plainly: up to 40 minutes on the V8, up to 60 on the V11 Animal. That is half again as long. Whether it matters is a question about your home, not about the machines. A one-bedroom flat does not take 40 minutes. A three-bedroom house with a shedding dog can.

**The cleaner head** is the second real difference. The V8 states a Motorbar head that de-tangles wrapped long hair and pet hair. The V11 Animal states a High Torque head that automatically adapts suction and power to different floor types without changing heads. Both handle hair; the V11 saves you the manual adjustment when you move from rug to floorboards.

**Filtration** is nearly the same on paper. Both state whole-machine filtration trapping 99.99% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. The listings differ on the filter itself, with the V11 Animal listed as HEPA and the V8 listed with a cartridge filter, which is worth checking on the listing if allergies are your reason for buying.

## The review base runs against the price

Usually the cheaper model in a range is the one with the long track record, because it has been on sale longer. Here it is the other way round.

The V11 Animal listing carries thousands of ratings. The V8 listing we link carries hundreds. That is a fact about the listings rather than about the machines, and the V8 is a long-established Dyson, but it does mean the pricier machine is the better-documented purchase on the evidence available to us. If you are buying on weight of buyer experience, that points at the V11.

One caveat in the other direction: when we checked, the V11 Animal showed only a few units in stock. Availability on Dyson listings moves quickly, so check it before you plan around that price.

## A note on which V11 you are looking at

Dyson sells the V11 in more than one variant and the listings differ, which trips people up when they compare specs found in different places.

The V11 Animal is the one on this page. A separate V11 Origin listing also exists at roughly $549, and that one publishes a 185AW suction figure and a three-mode selector, neither of which appears on the Animal's listing. We have not attributed the Origin's numbers to the Animal anywhere on this page, and you should be wary of comparisons that do. If you are cross-shopping V11 variants, read the specs on the exact listing you intend to buy.

## Where our data runs out

Three gaps, named rather than papered over.

**No suction figure is published on either listing here.** The V11 Origin publishes one, the Animal does not, and the V8 does not. So we cannot put a suction number against this $205 gap, and any page that does is borrowing it from somewhere else.

**No bin capacity is published** on either listing, so we cannot tell you how much more you can pick up between emptyings.

**No warranty terms are published** on either listing, so length of cover, a real part of what a $595 vacuum is meant to buy, is not something this page can weigh.

## Bottom line

Buy the **Dyson V8** (≈ $390) unless your home genuinely takes more than 40 minutes to vacuum. It does the same core job, converts to a handheld for cars and stairs, and saves you about $205. Buy the **Dyson V11 Animal** (≈ $595) if you are cleaning a larger home in a single pass, if moving between carpet and hard floor without adjusting anything appeals, or if the much deeper review base is what gives you confidence.
