Is there a portable AC that actually works?
Compressor portable AC can cool a room when capacity and exhaust installation suit the space. The Hisense and Gree cards are refrigerant units; the unavailable Pro Breeze reference is an evaporative cooler.
Start with the mechanics. A portable air conditioner is a complete refrigeration system sitting inside the room it’s cooling. The compressor and the hot side are in there with you, and only the exhaust hose sends part of that heat back out through a window or wall opening. So the unit rejects some of its own heat into the same room it’s meant to be cooling. If there’s no window or wall opening the exhaust hose can reach, that isn’t something a pricier portable model solves, it’s the operating condition of the whole category. And if the space is large or open-plan, a single portable unit will run and the result will be less than you hoped for.
