How to Clean a Food Processor: Parts and Odor Checks

Switch off and unplug the processor, then clean its permitted removable parts using the model’s care instructions. Treat the bowl, cutting tools, blade assemblies and drive heads as separate parts. Being removable does not automatically make a part suitable for soaking or the dishwasher.

Why does my food processor still smell after washing?

Check for visible food residue in the bowl, lid and accessible areas around the fitted tool, following the manual’s removal instructions. A lingering smell does not establish that every processor has a dirty rubber gasket, that its motor is sound or that a replacement seal will solve the problem. Unplug before handling parts and keep fingers away from cutting edges. Wash only the parts and surfaces the manufacturer permits, then dry them as directed before storage. Do not improvise a powered vinegar cycle or force out a seal to reach a hidden corner. If the smell remains, ask support about the exact model and affected part. Burning, sparks, damaged wiring or water in the motor base requires stopping use and qualified assessment before reconnecting. Do not mix vinegar with bleach or chlorine cleaners: the mixture can release toxic gas.

Identify the parts before washing

Find the model number on the appliance, not just its retailer title. The blender attachment supplied with a processor may have different care instructions from the main chopping bowl.

Kenwood’s care guide distinguishes its power unit, blade assemblies and whisk drive head from washable tools. It also directs users to the manual for specific attachments. Do not turn a general dishwasher statement into permission to immerse every item in the box.

A practical after-use sequence

3. Remove visible food and wash or wipe each part using its permitted method.
4. Use a suitable nonabrasive tool where allowed. Do not scrape a cutting edge or reach into a drive housing.
5. Rinse permitted washed parts, dry as directed and store cutting tools safely before reassembly.

The existing brush card is optional. Check its bristles and shape against your tool’s care instructions; a product name does not confirm compatibility with a blade assembly or seal. Avoid buying a brush as a substitute for finding the correct cleaning method.

When cleaning is not the next step

Persistent odor, a cracked part, repeated stopping or weak processing deserves model-specific troubleshooting. Those symptoms alone do not identify a worn blade or gasket.
